The Evolution of Under Armour Sportswear: From Humble Beginnings to Global Dominance
Under Armour is a name synonymous with high-performance athletic wear. It’s not just a brand; it’s a symbol of innovation, durability, and style in the sportswear world. Over the years, Under Armour has transformed from a small start up into one of the most recognizable names in sports apparel.
The Origins of Under Armour: A Vision Turned Reality
Founded in 1996 by Kevin Plank, a former University of Maryland football player, Under Armour was born out of frustration. Plank wanted to create a shirt that would wick away sweat and keep athletes cool and dry during intense workouts. At the time, athletes were still wearing cotton shirts, which absorbed sweat, weighed them down, and caused discomfort.
After experimenting with materials and technology, Plank came up with the idea of using moisture-wicking fabrics like polyester and nylon, which would keep athletes dry by drawing sweat away from the body. He created his first prototype in his grandmother's basement, and from there, Under Armour was born.
